Below is a statement by Dr. Hal Scherz, MD, President of Doctors for Patient Care, on President Obama's staged event with doctors and nurses who support government-run health care reform:

"President Obama is meeting with 50 doctors today in another transparent attempt to convince the American public that his healthcare boondoggle meets with the overwhelming support of the medical community. He will attempt to equate the need for reform with the notion that what Congress is doing addresses that need.  The fact that President Obama can round up doctors to stand with him and smile should fool no one into believing that these misguided practitioners actually represent most doctors.

The truth is that 70% of doctors are not in favor of the current health care bills going through the Congress and 45% are contemplating quitting medicine if it passes.  The AMA only represents 17% of the doctors in America, and the administration has been trying to deceive the American public into believing that the medical community is lining up behind the President. They might have, had the process not been politicized, because most doctors are in fact in favor of some kind of reform but not government takeover of healthcare."
