Don’t Let Obama’s EPA Kill More American Jobs, Says IFL

Washington, DC - Today the Institute for Liberty declared support for the Murkowski Resolution currently under consideration in the U.S. Senate and reiterated its objection to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) expanding and strengthening its chokehold on American businesses.

"Cap and Trade may be dead but the activist greens won't stop flogging the issue.  In an effort to satisfy their whining, the EPA will attempt to do administratively whatever couldn't be accomplished legislatively.  Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) is trying to keep EPA bureaucrats from destroying even more American jobs through regulation.  We commend her efforts and are grateful that there are a few brave Senators willing to stand up and tell government agencies to back off and shut up," said Andrew Langer, President of the Institute for Liberty (IFL).

The EPA has made it clear that it intends to put in place costly new regulations to cap greenhouse gas emissions.  In the wake the recent "endangerment finding" the EPA can regulate carbon dioxide under the Clean Air Act.  But the Clean Air Act was initially passed to address specific pollutants, and was not designed to address something as ubiquitous as carbon dioxide.  To head off a major power grab by unelected government officials, Sen. Murkowski has introduced a resolution of disapproval to keep the EPA from moving forward on its own while Congress continues to deliberate.

Langer continued, "IFL has long been an advocate of this approach.  The only reason EPA has been able to pursue this avenue is because of Congress' essential abdication of their duty to the American people of properly legislating and exercising due oversight responsibility over federal agencies.  In town hall after town hall, Americans have caught derelict legislators ducking these responsibilities when it comes to climate policy."

The Institute For Liberty takes a comprehensive approach to the issues impacting Americans, especially small businesses and entrepreneurs.  IFL dives deeply into the operations of federal agencies like OSHA and EPA, deal with new mandates being created by Congress, and attempts at all levels of government (including state and local governments) to chip away at individual rights.  IFL aggressively defends of the rights of individuals to pursue the American dream.
